Meet the Moores and the Ostranders
The Moores
Michael and Lisa Moore were married in 1983. From 1986-1997, they worked at the Alpine Boys Ranch, a group home for boys. After receiving training to work overseas, in 1999, the Moores moved to Israel along with their young daughters Demerey and Emilee.
During 19 years of serving in Israel, the Moores immersed themselves in service, including youth groups, Bible studies, discipleship groups, encouraging and serving alongside local congregations, sports teams, teaching and translating parenting training material, women’s ministry, and recruiting, training and overseeing volunteers.
Additionally, during their last six years in Israel, the Moores led groups, both international and Israeli (Jewish and Arab) to serve monthly in Jordan and twice a year in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC). In Jordan, the teams worked with Syrian and Iraqi refugees in villages outside of Amman. While in the DRC, the teams worked with widows, orphans, and others who had suffered from decades of war.
In 2018, the Moores moved to Minembwe, DRC to live and serve on a full-time basis. The region of Minembwe is situated in a remote area in South Kivu, which is in eastern DRC. The Moores work beside locals serving in the areas of education, development, and mentoring, with the hope of helping to bring healing and restoration to this war-torn area. Michael’s main role is to oversee the spiritual development of the students at the university and at the adjoining primary and secondary schools, as well as to work with these schools to further develop their English curriculum. Michael also disciples and mentors young men in life skills and with weekly Bible studies.
Lisa works with the university to come up with solutions to the needs of the community such as the current refugee crisis we have been dealing with since the spring of 2019, which is due to the continuing onslaught of rebel militia attacks on the villages of Minembwe. Lisa also directs our garden program which provides a hands-on classroom for the university and the local school students, as well as providing food for our families, the local orphans, and the staff of the school and university.
Michael and Lisa also encourage, advise, and walk beside the manager of a home for orphans to help him to feed, clothe, and educate the children.
